Thing List

Things I got around to doing:

  • Getting a haircut
  • Doing some washing
  • Attended Spelling Bee working bee
  • Watching a movie (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels)
  • Sleep
  • Make a carrot cake
  • Updating my blog, however lame

Things I didn’t get around to doing:

  • Any sort of organisation re: moving house
  • Packing/sorting
  • Working on another web project
  • Sort out my wretched iTunes situation
  • Print some musical scores I want to play

This week is crazy. As is typical in my life at the moment, I leave the house around 6.30am and return around 11pm. In short, don’t expect any new words appearing here.

Closer to home

There’s something oddly delightful about having the whole office to yourself first thing on a Friday morning before everything kicks off and we all crash into a wall at 5. There’s something less oddly delightful about the courier who busted in, breaking up the silence, and scared the poop out of me.

I’m slowly coming to the realisation that if I ever hope to have a social life again (at least, over the next 6-12 months), I’ll need to move closer to work. They’ve been great in letting me work from home two days this week, but there are certainly no promises I can keep doing that. It would be nice to be 20-30 minutes away from work, rather than 2 hours.

And so the hunt begins. In my non-existent downtime, I need to find an appropriate room mate and find somewhere to live. I hope I have the former tentatively penciled in very lightly with a 4H pencil: darling Izzy. The latter will be difficult, but at least there is no urgent rush.

It’s all qualified in my head; renting in Sydney could be a nice stepping stone, and certainly a change of scenery that I’m looking for.

I wonder if my Mum will travel to Sydney to pick up my washing?

You know, I could do your washing :)
but you would have to cook for me…especially if we didn’t have any eggs.

2 Simple Rules

I have a few rules to which I live by. They help me avoid time wasting exercises. One is to never watch a film which sports a pair of legs predominantly on the poster or cover art. Bonus points if there are heads popping out between the legs. I’ll write a letter to the film censor board if one of those heads belongs to Whoopi Goldberg.

The other rule is to immediately close websites which feature text in small caps, like this:

I’m sorry, but if that is your idea of a cool aesthetic, you simply aren’t going to be able to tell me anything I need to hear.

I’m also going to assume this is you:

Are you suggesting I’m a middle-aged overweight man who spends too much time at his computer? How very accurate :) Anyway, where’s your rss feed?

Actually – just looking at that photo again – on the far right you can see a penguin box. That’s a copy of Linux Mandrake 7. I know because I had a copy of it also, in 1999. Well, who has spent too much time at their computer now?

I just added my RSS feed down below in the footer. I’m still trying to sort stuff out (next job is blogroll).
