Double Doors

MCM_8656 — Matt Mullenweg

One day I’ll live in an apartment with double doors, and when friends ring the mechanical doorbell I’ll grab both handles, take a small step back and swing the open the great walls of wood to reveal the murmur of music, a bath of warm light and the faint smell of fresh black tea.

Double Sided Ideas

Houston Hi-Tech in a Small Space Tech Tour | Apartment Therapy Unplggd.

I’ve come across this tiny apartment a few times now, and I think the greatest idea is the sheer window blind used as both a room divider and projection screen which works from both sides (watch in bed, watch on the couch). Coupled with the cool vintage electronics, awesome chilled lounge area and for bonus points the same headphones I’ve been eyeing off, I’d love to live here.

Now, where would I put my piano?

Great idea, but what about privacy?

As long as you make your bed and live alone, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Chunk Of Wood

A Tail of DIY Doves and Desks: A Work Surface in LA2 | Apartment Therapy Unplggd.

As the maker of this DIY desk knows, there’s nothing like a big dangerous piece of wood to make you feel in charge. None of this flimsy MDF business. I’d love to make a desk like this (this one is refashioned from two IKEA benchtops), though I’m entirely aware that I like an essential range of skills required to do so. I also think I liked it better before it was stained dark.

Like Larry David, I respect wood.
